Willie Nelson Just Announced His 154th Album And He’s Still Going Strong

Willie Nelson announces his 154th album, Oh What A Beautiful World, featuring songs by Rodney Crowell, proving he’s still going strong

At an age when most people are reminiscing about the past, Willie Nelson is still out here making history. The country legend announced his 154th studio album, Oh What A Beautiful World, set for release on April 25—just days before his 91st 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡day.

Yes, you read that right—154 albums. While most artists are lucky to release a dozen records in their lifetime, Willie is outpacing entire genres.

This time around, the Red-Headed Stranger is paying tribute to his longtime friend and fellow Texas songwriter Rodney Crowell, handpicking a dozen tracks from Crowell’s extensive catalog. And if history tells us anything, it’s that when Willie Nelson decides to do something, it will be good.

A Tribute to Rodney Crowell and a Lifetime of Music

Willie and Rodney Crowell go way back. Their paths have crossed for decades in the Texas music scene, with Willie first recording a Crowell song in 1983. Fast forward 40 years, and he included another Crowell cut on his 2024 album, The Border. Now, with Oh What A Beautiful World, Willie is going all in, selecting twelve of his favorite Rodney Crowell songs from the past five decades.

The album includes everything from deep cuts to familiar favorites—songs recorded by artists like Jerry Jeff Walker, Bob Seger, Keith Urban, and Tim McGraw. The title track, “Oh What A Beautiful World,” even features Crowell himself, making this album as much a celebration of their friendship as it is a showcase of Crowell’s songwriting.

As always, Willie is joined by his longtime producer, Buddy Cannon, and some of Nashville’s finest session musicians. And, of course, Trigger—his trusty guitar that’s been by his side longer than most of us have been alive—is back in action.

Still Touring, Still Creating, Still Outrunning Us All

If releasing another album at 91 wasn’t impressive enough, Willie isn’t slowing down. He’s gearing up for another Outlaw Music Festival tour, bringing along legends like Bob Dylan, Billy Strings, Turnpike Troubadours, The Avett Brothers, Wilco, and more. The man isn’t just still making music—he’s still touring at an age when most people are just happy to be getting around at all.

Few artists in any genre have had the longevity and impact that Willie Nelson has. He’s been a pioneer, an outlaw, a legend, and he’s still going. While other artists talk about retiring, Willie picks up his guitar and makes another record.

There’s something poetic about “Oh What a Beautiful World” arriving just before Willie’s 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡day. Willie has spent his life painting a picture of the world through music—sometimes heartbreakingly raw, sometimes rebellious, sometimes full of humor, but always real.

So here we are, celebrating yet another Willie Nelson album, and at this point, it’s hard to even be surprised. He might outlive us all, but until then, we’ll keep listening.

Willie Nelson’s Oh What A Beautiful World arrives April 25. Listen to the title track now, and prepare for another legendary album.
