Predator: Badlands is about to break a franchise trend. Unlike the previous Predator movies, which had human leads, the upcoming Badlands will be the first installment in the long-running sci-fi action series to have the Predator as its protagonist.
Dan Trachtenberg, the co-writer and director of Badlands, revealed the exciting news during a recent interview with Empire. “The creature is front and centre, leading the charge,” he said with a grin. “He’s still badass, but there’s something there that touches you emotionally, too. Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting.” Previously, it had been believed that Elle Fanning — the only confirmed and announced cast member for the movie — would be the protagonist of Badlands, but that is no longer the case. Fanning is still expected to have a major role in the movie though, with the actor expected to be portraying one of the two sisters who are being hunted by the Predator.
