Justin Rose has revealed the secret up his sleeve that’s helped keep his game on par – a “recovery RV” decked out with all the best gear. A pillar in the world of golf for nearly 30 years, Rose has been victorious at the US Open in 2013 and became an Olympic gold medallist in 2016.

He’s been fingertips away from glory in other majors several times throughout his career, including just last month at Augusta National. During the 2025 Masters, the 44-year-old was just a putt away from shattering Rory McIlroy’s dream and snatching the coveted major title – it would have been his first in over a decade.

But fortune favoured McIlroy as Rose’s effort veered off course, marking Rose’s third runner-up finish at the Masters by a painfully slight margin. Now, with the PGA Championship underway, he’s set his sights on not repeating history.

Rose is scheduled to start the PGA Championship in formidable company at 7:09pm UK time. Following the narrow miss at the Masters, he’s keen to recover his form – and it seems he’s got a secret weapon hidden off-course.

Rose has previously flaunted his bespoke motorhome, affectionately termed his “recovery vehicle.” This RV is equipped with sophisticated features designed to support his physical and mental health.

Earlier this week, he revealed to The Telegraph that tennis legend Novak Djokovic inspired his newly upgraded RV, which is reported to have cost a hefty £200,000 to put together.

Rose credited the Serbian superstar for influencing his decision, as he said: “We have a mutual friend and we have always spoken of Novak summing up longevity. He has stressed that recovery is everything and that’s why I commissioned and bought my ‘recovery vehicle’ – my custom-built RV – when I turned 40.”

The unique vehicle, a one-of-a-kind on the PGA Tour, boasts an array of features designed for peak physical recovery, including an infrared sauna, oxygen tanks, and even a cold plunge pool for muscle relaxation.

Rose added: “Sometimes we can park it on site, but we have had to rent people’s back gardens to accommodate it. At the Masters it was right across the street. As a team we have our morning meetings there – it does have a fantastic coffee machine – and it is a nice place to chill. But it is essentially for after the rounds.

“There’s everything in it. We’ve got red-light therapy, we have fresh oxygen – so a spin bike with fresh oxygen – we’ve hot and cold plungers, infrared sauna and steam shower. It does prolong the day, probably by an hour or more. But it is a good hour. It definitely helps.”

Rose also gave fans an exclusive peek inside his trailer on Golf.com’s Instagram page ahead of his impressive performance at Augusta National.

In a video tour, the British golfer proudly showcased the extraordinary features of his mobile abode, which includes a red-light therapy bed, a spin bike, and a huge oxygen chamber.

Taking viewers through the interior, Rose revealed what would normally be the bedroom has been transformed into a wellness suite with hot and cold bathtubs. Explaining his normal recovery routine, he said: “And then this is I think the coolest room, this is what would be the bedroom of a typical RV.

“Here we have hot and cold plunges. You know, I keep it in the 40s, in the high 40s. You don’t have to be a complete hero, but for me that’s enough to really shock the body and get that response that you are looking for.”

In addition, he displayed a steam shower and an infrared sauna, which he believes is instrumental during his golf tournaments. Rose added: “Yeah, it’s been fun. It’s been a fun project.”

Rose’s attention to detail and dedication to post-tournament recuperation were evident during the Masters, as he led for a significant portion and pushed eventual winner McIlroy right up until the decisive shot.

Despite not taking home the green jacket, it’s apparent that Rose’s meticulous care in restorative practices is a vital element in his enduring reputation as one of golf’s most consistent performers for years on end.

Rose acknowledged the significant impact his habits have on his game, as he told The Telegraph: “It was not just the physical stamina, but the mental stamina and the ability to expend that nervous energy. I had breakfast with Shane [Lowry] that morning, and we were on the same score after three rounds.

“Shane said, ‘We are a bit back, but if Rory and Bryson [DeChambeau] get caught up in their own thing, one of us could easily come through.’

“I thought about that conversation afterwards. Shane, one of the in-form players in the world, struggled [shooting an 81], and I was the one to do it, and at this stage of my career, I’m proud of that. It tells me I might be doing all the right things.”
