Directed once again by James Wan, the 2025 film, subtitled “The Trident of Destiny”, promises the franchise’s most emotionally charged and visually stunning installment yet. The trailer opens with sweeping shots of ancient ruins deep beneath the sea, thunderous waves crashing against warships, and Arthur’s voice echoing:
“The ocean gave me power. But now, it demands sacrifice.”
Timothée Chalamet plays Prince Nereus II, a brilliant but morally torn Atlantean heir who challenges Aquaman’s authority in the wake of a mysterious energy awakening from the ocean floor. What begins as a political standoff soon turns into a battle for the fate of both land and sea.
Highlights from the trailer include:
-
Massive underwater battle sequences involving sea dragons, sentient coral armor, and a resurrected Leviathan
-
A powerful confrontation between Aquaman and Nereus in a bioluminescent trench
-
The return of Amber Heard as Mera and Patrick Wilson as Orm, both caught between loyalty and destiny
Director James Wan describes Aquaman 3 as “a mythic, tragic finale that blends ancient prophecy with modern action”, signaling this could be the end of Momoa’s reign as the King of Atlantis.
Chalamet’s casting has already stirred buzz online, with fans praising his intense performance and unique energy. One of the trailer’s final lines, delivered by him in a whisper, has already gone viral:
“A true king doesn’t rule the tide. He listens to it.”
Aquaman 3: The Trident of Destiny surges into theaters December 18, 2025, just in time for the holiday season.
