Gonçalo Ramos officially replaces Darwin Núñez at Liverpool: Contract details revealed

Liverpool have wasted no time in reshaping their attack following the departure of Darwin Núñez, as Gonçalo Ramos is set to join the Premier League champions from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal that has caught many by surprise. The Portuguese striker becomes the direct replacement for Núñez, with Fabrizio Romano confirming the move and revealing key details of the agreement.

Romano broke the news on social media, stating: “Gonçalo Ramos to Liverpool, here we go! Agreement reached with PSG — loan with mandatory buy clause worth €65 million. Medical tests scheduled and contract valid until 2029. He’ll replace Darwin Núñez, who’s joining Atletico Madrid.”

Liverpool’s pursuit of a central striker intensified after Núñez’s expected exit to Atletico Madrid. While names like Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro had been floated as potential targets, it was Ramos who ultimately got the nod — a decision influenced by manager Arne Slot’s desire for a more tactically disciplined and efficient forward.

Ramos, 23, scored 32 goals in 80 appearances for PSG and arrives with Champions League and Ligue 1 experience under his belt. Though not initially viewed as Liverpool’s top priority, the club reportedly identified him as a strong “Moneyball-style” investment — combining value, youth, and goal-scoring potential.

According to sources at Anfield Index, Liverpool see Ramos as a long-term project who can adapt to Slot’s pressing system and provide a reliable focal point in attack. Despite PSG activating a permanent deal for Ramos earlier this year, the French giants are believed to be open to letting him go in order to restructure their squad.

Arne Slot was reportedly involved in greenlighting the move and only approved Núñez’s sale once a suitable replacement was lined up. “Slot wanted clarity and control,” Romano added. “He made it clear Núñez could leave, but only if Liverpool secured a quality replacement — and Ramos fit the profile.”

With this signing, Liverpool signal the start of a new chapter in attack, one built on structure, efficiency, and youth. Ramos is expected to join Liverpool’s pre-season camp in early July, with fans eager to see how he’ll slot into a frontline that already features Mohamed Salah, Luis Díaz, and Cody Gakpo.
