McLAREN’S SECRET “B-SPEC MONSTER” IS COMING TO CANADA… AND THE GRID SHOULD BE TERRIFIED

McLaren is not playing games this year. The team is already fighting at the sharp end of the 2026 grid, but they clearly want more. Instead of resting on their early success, the Woking squad is about to drop a game-changing update.

According to F1 journalist Jon Noble, highlighted on X by the data account @F1BigDataMcLaren is bringing a heavy upgrade package to the Canadian Grand Prix. And this is not just a few carbon fiber tweaks. Looking at the list, McLaren is essentially rolling out a brand new car.

The Montreal Upgrade List for McLaren

The leaked update list hits almost every major aerodynamic and structural component on the car. The team is scheduled to introduce:

  • A new floor

  • A modified chassis

  • A new front wing and rear wing

  • Updated bodywork

  • Revisions to the halo and roll hoop

In the modern ground-effect era, the floor and the chassis are the beating heart of the car’s performance. And when a team changes both of those elements at the same time alongside the bodywork, they are pretty much changing how the air flows over and under the vehicle. And we are basically looking at a mid-season B-spec car.

The Miami GP Precedent: Proof of Concept?

To predict if this massive Canada package will work out, we only have to look back at what happened earlier this season. McLaren brought their first major batch of updates to the Miami Grand Prix, introducing seven new parts, including a completely new floor, rear wing, and bodywork.

The results were immediate and devastating to their rivals. The upgrades completely transformed the MCL40 overnight. Lando Norris immediately grabbed the Sprint Qualifying pole, and McLaren dominated Saturday with a 1-2 finish in the Sprint race. On Sunday, they backed it up with a double podium, as Norris and Oscar Piastri finished second and third.

The most terrifying part for the rest of the grid is that the upgrades worked exactly as intended. Team Principal Andrea Stella confirmed, “Pretty much what we measure in the data is consistent with what we were expecting from the development tools. So I would say that we are in line with our expectations” (via racingnews365). Publicly rejecting Lewis Hamilton’s claims that McLaren got “more than expected”.

Will Canada Deliver the Same Results for Stella and McLaren?

The Miami update proved that McLaren’s wind tunnel correlation is deadly accurate. If the simulation data for the new Canadian floor and chassis package is just as reliable, we are about to see another massive leap in performance.

Mercedes and Kimi Antonelli currently lead the championship, and Antonelli was the only driver who managed to beat the upgraded McLarens in the Miami main event. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal is a brutal, high-speed track that demands heavy braking, stability, and low drag. If McLaren’s new B-spec car delivers the expected downforce without disrupting their balance, we will likely see a repeat of their Miami success.

Only this time, they won’t just be sharing the podium with Antonelli; they will be actively hunting him down for the top step.
