Liverpool Given Green Light to Launch Biggest Signing in Club History

Liverpool’s pursuit of Swedish striker Alexander Isak has taken a dramatic turn as financial experts confirm the Reds are fully capable of pulling off a record-breaking move — even if Newcastle United hold out for a staggering £150 million fee.

Fresh off their Premier League title triumph, Liverpool are undergoing an aggressive squad overhaul under new manager Arne Slot. The club has already secured three high-profile signings: Florian Wirtz for a British-record £116 million, Jeremie Frimpong for £29.5 million, and Milos Kerkez for £40 million. But despite spending over £180 million, the Anfield outfit shows no signs of slowing down and are now targeting a world-class No.9 to replace Darwin Núñez and Diogo Jota, both of whom could leave this summer.

Among the names being closely linked, Alexander Isak has emerged as the frontrunner. The 25-year-old forward has flourished since his £63 million move to Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022, netting an impressive 54 goals in 86 Premier League appearances — making him one of England’s deadliest attackers.

While Newcastle are reluctant to part with their star striker, football finance expert Dan Plumley believes Liverpool can meet the Magpies’ demands. “From a financial standpoint, Liverpool are in a position to buy Isak,” Plumley told Football Insider. “They’ve spent heavily on Wirtz and Frimpong, but if they offload Jarell Quansah and part ways with Trent Alexander-Arnold early, it would free up significant funds.”

Plumley added, “Liverpool had virtually zero net spend last summer — just £0.1 million. So when you look at the two-year financial picture, a deal for Isak is well within reach.”

However, Newcastle’s willingness to sell remains the biggest obstacle. “The key question is: will Newcastle part with their biggest star? The chances are slim. Negotiations would be extremely tough, and the Magpies will drive the price as high as possible. The issue is whether Liverpool are willing to break the bank for Isak,” Plumley warned.

With Núñez and Jota potentially on the move, Slot will need a reliable, elite striker to lead the line. At just 25, Isak not only fits the club’s long-term strategy but also matches the dynamic attacking philosophy Slot is expected to implement.

The saga is far from over — but with the financial green light now reportedly given at Anfield, the fate of the deal lies in Newcastle’s hands and Isak’s personal ambitions.
