Jordan Spieth suffered an injury at the Travelers Championship last month, and since then the PGA Tour star has been absent from action with The Open around the corner

Jordan Spieth is absent from one of his favorite PGA Tour events, the John Deere Classic, this week, but it appears to be for good reason.

Spieth has not featured since suffering an injury and withdrawing from the Travelers Championship last month. The injury came at an awkward time for the three-time major winner, with The Open Championship at Royal Portrush right around the corner.

A PGA Tour fan favorite, Spieth will have left many concerned that he would not be ready to feature in the final major of the season in Northern Ireland, especially after missing this week’s trip to TPC Deere Run, the venue where he won his maiden PGA Tour title.

However, his absence is expected to be more centered around his family rather than an injury, after Spieth revealed that his wife Annie is expected to give 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 to their third 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 at some point over the next week. “It’s disappointing,” he said of recently pulling out of the Travelers.

“We’re having a 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 here in a couple of weeks, so I’ll have some time off now, obviously, to get healthy, but hopefully, after a few days, I’ll go through the right process to just get right back to where I was.” Going off Spieth’s timeline, the 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 could well take place this week.

He also opted to skip the Genesis Scottish Open, which begins next Thursday. Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Xander Schauffele are participating in the build-up to The Open. Despite the injury and the 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 of his third 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥, Spieth has made no indications that he will miss The Open.

It is a major event that is close to the heart of the Texan star, having won the Claret Jug at Royal Birkdale in 2017. Spieth’s injury issue will no doubt have left him frustrated, with the three-time major winner seemingly coming into form and showing glimmers of his old self in recent months.

He said last month: “Yeah, it’s incredibly frustrating because this was 10 out of 12 [events] for me, and I was looking at this being the strongest one, and I was very confident about that. Everything I had done in practice and the pro-am showed me it’s going to be a really good event. It’s just a very weird circumstance.”

Spieth revealed the injury was picked up during his warm-up prior to the first round at TPC River Highlands, with the problem in his neck and back. He tweeted: “During warmup, my right scap tightened, and despite trying to push through, pain spread to my neck and upper back.

“By 13 tee, I realized I had to stop. I’ve never had to WD before, and hate that it happened at @TravelersChamp – a tournament I love. Thanks, everyone for the support!”
