Luis Diaz breaks silence after skipping Diogo Jota’s funeral to attend party in Colombia

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has finally addressed the growing backlash after he was caught partying in Colombia while his teammate Diogo Jota and Jota’s brother Andre were laid to rest in an emotional funeral in Gondomar, Portugal.

As the entire Liverpool squad, including top players and coaching staff, gathered to bid a tearful farewell to Jota and his brother, Diaz was noticeably absent. What shocked fans even more was the viral video that surfaced showing the 27-year-old dancing joyfully at a music event in Colombia during the same period.

Worse still, Diaz was seen socializing with celebrities at the event, showing no signs of mourning. The footage drew widespread criticism—not only from Liverpool fans but also from the Colombian press, who questioned his sensitivity during a time of collective grief for the club.

“Jota once held up Diaz’s shirt when his father was kidnapped. He stood by Diaz in his darkest hour,” one fan commented online. “Now Jota is gone, and Diaz can’t even show up to say goodbye? That’s cold.”

The criticism has intensified due to the strong bond the two players shared. When Diaz first arrived at Anfield from Porto, Jota reportedly played a key role in helping him adapt both on and off the pitch.

In the wake of the backlash, Diaz took to Instagram with an emotional message honoring Jota, writing:

“My heart is heavy. Diogo was not only a teammate but a brother in this journey. I will forever be grateful for his support, especially when my family was in danger. I couldn’t be there physically, but my prayers and soul were beside him. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Still, many fans say the post came too late—and lacked the sincerity expected from someone who once shared such a close connection. Critics argue that in a club like Liverpool, where unity and solidarity are deeply valued, Diaz’s absence at the funeral reflects poorly on his commitment to the team’s core values.

The controversy has sparked debates about player responsibilities off the pitch, and some fear the incident may leave a lasting dent in Diaz’s reputation at Anfield.

As of now, neither Liverpool FC nor Diogo Jota’s family has issued an official comment regarding Diaz’s absence.
