Cameron Young’s relatable nine-word question sums up first PGA Tour win

Cameron Young claimed his first-ever win on the PGA Tour at the Wyndham Championship after a long wait to finally get over the line and he did it in style in North Carolina

A relatable nine-word question captured hearts on the PGA Tour this week, and it came from a long-awaited champion.

Heading into the Wyndham Championship, where Max Homa showed his true colors despite missing the cut, three high-profile PGA Tour regulars — Cameron Young, Tommy Fleetwood, and Alex Norén — still lacked a victory.

Young had finished runner-up seven times without a win and earned more than $25 million in career earnings without ever hoisting a trophy. Before Sunday, Fleetwood, who didn’t participate at Wyndham but made recent headlines for a major age gap with his wife, still ranked among the world’s top 15, and Norén, a veteran in over 184 PGA Tour events, were also in the same win-less boat.

Across four final-round challenges, Young erased that drought in dominant fashion. After a first-day bogey, he racked up five straight birdies in the early holes and never looked back.

He closed with a measured 68, finished at 22-under-par 258, tying the tournament’s 72-hole record, and cruised to victory by six shots over Mac Meissner. His total of 27 birdies over the week and a 4-round total of −22 marked the kind of precision expected of a champ.

With the putter in hand and emotions near the surface, Young posed a question that the golfing world shared: “Where do I go? I’ve never done this before.”

He said this while standing on the 18th green, just before walking off to find out how a newly minted winner navigates the post-win handshake line.

Young followed up with an honest look at his emotional journey: “I’ve been waiting for it for a while… it’s the end of my fourth season, and I’ve had my chances.”

He also noted that he refused to let this one “get away” and that his father’s presence in the gallery made victory even sweeter.

While Young finally unlocked the conversation everyone was having, Fleetwood and Norén remain locked in theirs. Tommy Fleetwood enters the FedExCup Playoffs as one of the best PGA Tour players never to have won a title, amassing more than $31 million in prize money, a drought propped up only by his consistency and high finishes.

At the same time, Alex Norén, who tied for third at Wyndham, has yet to notch a win in 184 Tour starts, despite multiple major contenderships and a resurgent 2025 midway through hamstring rehab.

Young’s win comes at a pivotal moment. It makes him the 1,000th different winner in PGA Tour history, and a first-timer’s breakthrough just as the season’s cut line shakes out heading into the FedExCup Playoffs.

Additionally, the victory catapulted him from 19th to 15th in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings, putting him on the cusp of automatic qualification.

But Young understands that nothing is guaranteed. As he explained, his approach remains steady: “I really did a lot of the same stuff I normally do… just tried to make it a regular day.”
