Another transfer window has been and gone with yet more records broken in the Premier League
The British transfer record was broken for the second window in a row as Chelsea completed a £115m deal for Moises Caicedo – just six months after signing Enzo Fernandez for a then record £106.8m fee.
Manchester City almost broke a record of their own by signing Josko Gvardio to make him one of the most expensive defenders in the history of the Premier League. Pep Guardiola’s side have enjoyed an impressive start to the 2023-24 campaign with four wins from their opening four games.
Manchester United’s biggest signing was the £72m transfer of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta with Erik ten Hag’s men enduring an inconsistent start to the Premier League season with two wins and two defeats.
With plenty of money spent yet again in the English top flight over the summer, we have put together the most expensive XI ever based on transfer fees – in a 4-3-3 formation, here’s who makes the cut…
1. GK – Kepa Arrizabalaga to ChelseaArrizabalaga joined the Blues from Athletic Bilbao for £71.6m in August 2018.
2. LB – Marc Cucurella to ChelseaThe left-back joined Chelsea on a six-year deal last summer for a fee of around £63m.
The England international joined United for £80m from Leicester City four years ago.
4. Josko Gvardiol to Manchester CityCity agreed a £77.6m deal with RB Leipzig for the centre back last month.
5. RB- Joao Cancelo to Man CityThe full-back played on both flanks during his time at City, with his £60m move from Juventus in 2019 making him the most expensive player to be deployed regularly at right back.
The England international secured a £105m move from West Ham to Arsenal this summer.
7. CM – Enzo Fernandez to ChelseaThe World Cup winner joined Chelsea for £106.8m on deadline day in January 2023.
8. CM – Moises Caicedo to ChelseaAfter a transfer saga involving Liverpool, Chelsea signed Caicedo for £115m last month.

10. ST – Romelu Lukaku to ChelseaThe Belgian had joined United for £75m in 2017 before moving onto Inter Milan. He returned to the Premier League with Chelsea for £97.5m in 2021.
11. RW – Antony to Manchester UnitedUnited signed the winger from Ajax last summer for £82m in a deal that could rise to £86.3m.
